Compassion Fatigue Educator

This 7 hour course meets the Academy of Traumatology requirements for certification as a Compassion Fatigue Educator. It is designed to help the student prepare to educate professionals who are at risk for compassion fatigue and secondary traumatization. The course focuses on a comprehensive overview of the work-induced, secondary traumatization. The mission of the course is promoting wellness. Students are expected to participate in the class exercises and engage in discussions.

Goals:

1. Students will be able to identify factors contributing to compassion fatigue.

2. Students will learn to utilize effective methods for engaging the traumatized helpers, educating them and referring them for help and follow-up. 3. Students will identify their own self-care goals.

Methods:

1. Material will be covered in lecture and discussion format.

2. Students will complete a number of brief self-tests as examples for their own self care and the education of others. 3. Self-soothing skills and exercises will be part of the class.
